As sad as it may be, we’ve become a generation of consumers who would rather view a video about a product, brand or business than read its textual counterpart. In a study published by Forrester Research, Dr. James McQuivey applied some simple math to the old saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” deducting that just one minute of video is the equivalent of 1.8 million words! And according to a Forbes Insights report, 59% of executives prefer watching video to reading text. That’s why online video has evolved into the most powerful content marketing tool out there.
Gone are the days where having just a website was enough to solidify your online presence. Even managing a simple social presence doesn’t quite cut it anymore. The time and resources required to consistently upkeep all of these platforms is an exhausting feat for small businesses, and with so many options catering to different audiences and demographics, it can very quickly become a full-time job to cover all your bases. Video has literally exploded online and taken over the internet over the last 10 years. We are never more than inches away from a screen or a device that can display video content instantly. NIELSEN, a leader in the study of consumer watching and buying behavior, states that over 147 million Americans watch video on the internet; and that number shows no signs of slowing down, as audiences continue to grow rapidly, with the demand for more following in suit. A recent white paper published by Cisco forecasts that by 2019, 80% of all consumer internet traffic will be video traffic. With one video–ONE–you can saturate more virtual nooks and crannies than a pad of butter on a hot english muffin. That’s what I call food for thought.
Speaking of thought, think about how many places your business video can exist; your website, an e-newsletter, social media platforms, YouTube…the opportunities for consumers to see a video about your product, brand or business are limitless. Video content mixed with a bit of video marketing strategy will increase your brand awareness, ROI, conversion rates, social reach and website traffic. It will educate, entertain, inform, retain, and connect you with your audience. There is no such thing as, “too old or too young for video,” anymore. Focusing on your exact demographic has become easy using video because it is EVERYWHERE, accessible and viewable to EVERYONE.
