Community Involvement

Community Pride

When the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua approached us about creating a video for their fundraiser, we leapt at the opportunity to help out. Since their membership fees are only about 1% of their annual operating budget, fundraising is key to ensuring that the kids who need them most benefit from their programs. We spoke to Bridget Cooley, their Director of Development, on how the work we’ve produced for them has helped fund their overall mission.

The Club’s Mission

The mission of the Club is to enable kids ages 5 to 18, especially those who need it most, to reach their potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. They do this each day through a variety of programming in the areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyle, and Good Character & Citizenship. Most of the programs the kids gain value from are free of cost.

What They Needed

Before working with us, the Club was utilizing slideshows and speeches to help donors and community members see the scope of their support. While effective on its own, it lacked the immediacy of video. Video provided an experience for the donors to see their investment in action and how their donations could be utilized to improve program opportunities.

Where Video Fit In

“Video provided us the opportunity to craft a strong message with voice and action,” said Bridget. “New Sky Productions was willing to put the time in to know us as customers, work with us as we crafted our message, had the creativity to keep showing our Club in a new and effective way, and had the patience involved with working with kids and staff who had little experience with video.”

The Outcome

We started with a simple fundraising video. That video was then leveraged to show other donors the scope of their programs. “There are other mediums to share our story, but video seems to enhance nearly all of the senses in viewers to actually feel the value of our organization,” said Bridget. “People hear that we are serving nearly 500 kids a day, but actually seeing the Club busy and engaged in video demonstrates what that really looks like. Video has created an effective visual representation of our programs that mere words, pictures, and social media posts can’t.” Bridget says that the impact of the videos on their community awareness is invaluable. “Investing in video has helped us to gain community support for funding opportunities that were previously out of reach.” The most recent video we created for them, in combination with a powerful personal story presented at their auction, led to a 175% increase over their budgeted goal.
